Infantry Units

Infantry units are the backbone of any army in Iron Harvest. They are cheap, relatively fast, and, most importantly, extremely versatile. They are unarmored units and are extremely vulnerable to firearms. For this reason, it is important to keep them in cover whenever possible—for example, in trenches or behind walls.

Infantrymen can use various weapons and tools to gain new abilities or change the type of damage they deal. For instance, ordinary infantrymen with a rifle cannot deal significant damage to a mech, but the same unit, by finding grenades, mines, or hand cannons on the battlefield, can change their class and combat vehicles more effectively.

Abilities and Tactics

Infantry units can jump over low obstacles such as fences or low walls to shorten their path. They can jump into trenches, allowing them to attack the enemy in close combat.

Infantrymen earn experience from battles. They become stronger when they reach the veteran level and even more powerful when they achieve the elite level.

Control and Support

Infantry units can also operate heavy machine guns, cannons, and mortars, as well as occupy buildings. They are the only type of unit capable of capturing mines and flags.

Combat

The average view radius of a unit is 45 meters. Units automatically engage in combat as soon as the distance to the enemy is reduced to the shooting distance. The firing radius depends on each type of weapon. When units get too close, they transition to melee combat, but players can also force a melee attack at a long distance by issuing an attack order using a modifier key.

Players can use the retreat command on units. A unit that has received the retreat command can no longer be controlled and runs back to the player’s base, where it can be fortified and healed. In this case, the unit moves faster than usual and takes less damage.

Infantry Classes

The game features 7 different infantry classes:

  • Infantrymen: Ordinary infantry, moving faster than other classes.
  • Grenadiers: Use ordinary rifles but also carry grenades. Effective against infantry and lightly armored vehicles.
  • MG (Machine Gunners): Equipped with a light machine gun that requires a short time to prepare for combat. Very effective against enemy manpower.
  • Artillerymen: “Heavyweights” among infantry units, equipped with a cannon effective against all types of vehicles.
  • Engineers: Poorly armed but extremely versatile. Can build buildings and fortifications, repair mechs, lay mines, and use explosives.
  • Medics: Specialize in healing and supporting other units.
  • Flamethrowers: Equipped with 20 liters of liquid fire. The flamethrower is a deadly enemy against infantry—even in trenches and bunkers. Explode when killed.
