Saxon Gunner
Saxon Gunner - A specialized infantry unit of the Saxon Empire. These fighters are armed with compact anti-armor weapons designed to combat mechanized targets such as mechs. Despite their limited mobility, they play a key role in combating enemy armored vehicles.
Equipment
Gunners wear uniforms similar to those of stormtroopers, but are supplemented with ammunition belts and shells. Their weapons stand out for their engineering precision. The guns feature smoothed, machined curves characteristic of Saxon technology.
Combat Use
The main task of the gunners is to destroy light and medium armored vehicles. Their weapons have high penetration power, and the cost of production makes them an affordable alternative to mechs. In groups, they can quickly disable enemy vehicles, but are vulnerable in close combat: low rate of fire and accuracy make them helpless against infantry. For successful operations, they require support from stormtroopers or machine gunners, who cover the flanks.
The unit’s movement speed is 3 m/s, which is 25% slower than other infantry units, due to the heavy weaponry. Like other infantry units, they can change their class by picking up weapons from the battlefield.
Advantages and Disadvantages
The unit is distinguished by its affordable production cost and high effectiveness against light armor. It has good range and the ability to adapt by changing weapons. However, slowness, low rate of fire, and poor accuracy when firing at infantry significantly limit their use. Additionally, they are practically ineffective against heavy armor.
Interesting Details
- The design of the grenade launchers is inspired by early anti-tank rifles from World War I, but stylized to fit the dieselpunk aesthetic of the universe.
- In combat dialogue, Gunners often use Saxon military proverbs that reflect their devotion to the empire.
