Saxon Machine Gunner
{{{name}}}
{{{name}}}A unit of the Saxon Empire. Armed with machine guns. Effective against infantry units.

Saxon Machine Gunner is a specialized infantry unit of the Saxon Empire equipped with machine guns to suppress enemy infantry. It belongs to the heavy infantry class, possessing high firepower against enemy manpower.

Like any other infantry unit, machine gunners can change their infantry class by picking up weapons from the ground.

Equipment

Machine gunners wear the standard uniform of stormtroopers, supplemented with ammo belts and a container for additional ammunition reserves.

The main weapon is the Danish Madsen machine gun — the first mass-produced light weapon of its kind. Despite the machine gun using a box magazine, machine gunners wear ammo belts, which is a distinctive feature of their equipment.

Combat Usage

The unit is highly effective against infantry, capable of suppressing the enemy at considerable range. When positioned behind cover or in buildings, machine gunners become particularly dangerous, forcing enemy infantry to move slowly and take cover. Despite their high cost and slowness, they are powerful defensive units.

Machine gunners require time to set up before opening fire. Their effectiveness increases significantly when using cover or in urban environments. However, they are vulnerable to armored vehicles and slow to adapt to changes on the battlefield, especially when caught in open terrain.

Tactical Limitations

  • Low movement speed
  • High cost
  • Need to set up before firing
  • Vulnerability to armored vehicles
  • Limited mobility in combat
  • Organizational specifics

Update History

2025. In the current version of the game, the Saxon Empire cannot directly train machine gunners in barracks. However, any infantryman can become a machine gunner by picking up equipment from a killed machine gunner or from an ammo crate.

Interesting Facts

  • Saxon machine gunners pronounce the MG abbreviation with a hard “g” (em-gee)
  • The Saxon Empire’s choice not to directly train machine gunners is due to the fact that the majority of their troops are armed with automatic weapons, which reduces the need for specialized units
  • The Madsen machine gun used by the unit was developed in the 1880s and remained in service until modern times (for example, in the Brazilian military police)
